Like any normal computer geek, I'm always looking to save money on hardware, games, and accessories. One of the biggest wallet drains (other than diskettes) has always been printer ink. I've had every generation of printer in my time, from dot matrix to thermal, and I've always ended up spending more cash on ink cartridges, toner cartridges, and even printer ribbons.
In the past I've tried saving money by buying my own printer ink refill kits, but I've never had much success. Sure, I've saved some money on the actual cost of the ink (page for page, pixel for pixel), but I've lost all those savings on the ink that I've spilled on my carpet, my keyboard, and my shirt.
In the end, those kits were more trouble than they were worth. And I still have some questions about the businesses that do the refills for you. The ink always gets clogged in the jets, or dries in the ink cartridge.
So while I don't denounce printer refills themselves, I prefer to pick up my ink in a nice original sealed package, where more of it is going to end up on the paper than on my pants. |
